Valencia Proclaims Carmen Prades and Marta Mercader as 2026 Falleras Mayores

A packed City Hall celebrated the new ambassadors in a ceremony that set a hopeful tone for the Fallas year.

Overview

  • The proclamation took place Tuesday in the Hemiciclo and continued in the Salón de Cristal, with ovations from attendees and the presence of the 2025 representatives from Valencia as well as delegations from Castellón and Alicante.
  • Both appointees hail from the La RoquetaArrancapins sector: Carmen Prades represents Falla Convento Jerusalén–Matemático Marzal and Marta Mercader represents Falla Alberique–Héroe Romeu.
  • Their selection followed Monday’s Junta Central Fallera session in which the mayor opened the jury’s sealed verdicts before announcing the names by the traditional telefonada, an event broadcast live by À Punt.
  • In her remarks, Prades emphasized hope and noted 2026 milestones including a decade since UNESCO inscribed Fallas as Intangible Cultural Heritage and Valencia’s role as host of an international pyrotechnics congress.
  • Prades is 25 and works in her family’s transport and logistics firm while finishing studies, and Mercader is 10, a lifelong fallera who studies ballet and is in fifth grade.
