Overview
- Valencia’s city government has launched a five-year, €58 million program for the antiguo cauce del Turia and formally approved the first linked project, a €16.5 million rehabilitation of tramos X and XI.
- The approved work will repave the Palau de la Música fountain area and the stretch between Puente de las Flores and Puente del Ángel Custodio, restore Ricardo Bofill’s garden, replace cobbles and pipes, update fountains and create a new pond under the Ángel Custodio bridge.
- Two further Turia projects are planned to upgrade the tramo XII skatepark and carry out interventions in the Parque de Cabecera, with total construction spending of about €29 million and the balance earmarked for management and maintenance.
- City officials also set near-term urban works: a three-phase, €11 million Plaza del Ayuntamiento reform, Gran Vía Marqués del Turia resurfacing with noise-reducing asphalt from June 2, and Calle Colón works to widen sidewalks and add similar asphalt starting in early July.
- The council is negotiating the future use of the protected Guillem de Castro building with the Diputación and is rethinking festival locations at the Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias to comply with a recent court ruling on noise, while Mayor María José Catalá used the announcements to stake out her position within the PP.
