Uttar Pradesh Opens Ganga Expressway With 15-Day Toll Holiday

The trial period is meant to draw users to a PPP road where private firms will later collect tolls for 27 years.

Overview

  • The 594-km Ganga Expressway, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Hardoi, is now open between Meerut and Prayagraj across 12 districts.
  • Uttar Pradesh announced a 15-day toll-free window after a provisional clearance set the commercial operation date for the corridor.
  • UPEIDA ordered IRB Infrastructure and Adani Infrastructure to pause toll collection and keep patrols, emergency medical care, and other services running.
  • When tolls start after the free window in the second week of May, an end-to-end car trip is expected to cost about Rs 1,800, with buses and trucks over Rs 5,700.
  • Built for about Rs 36,230 crore on a DBFOT public–private model, the project grants long-term toll rights to the concessionaires and the state says it will reimburse revenue lost during the waiver.
