Overview
- Uttar Pradesh’s cabinet on Tuesday approved the Rs 403 crore Dr B. R. Ambedkar Murti Vikas Yojana, allotting Rs 1 crore per assembly seat to upgrade up to 10 statues with canopies, boundary walls, lighting and landscaping.
- The plan caps spending at Rs 10 lakh per site, covers statues installed through December 31, 2025, and ties preservation to public use that officials say can create local jobs.
- The scheme also covers statues of Sant Ravidas, Kabir, Jyotiba Phule and Maharishi Valmiki, with each constituency asked to showcase chosen sites on Ambedkar Jayanti on April 14 with local representatives present.
- Delhi scheduled April 10–14 celebrations with Rs 5 lakh for each district and a Bhim Jyoti Utsav near India Gate featuring exhibits, cultural shows and a Constitution-themed festival.
- Madhya Pradesh announced a week of events through April 14 and progress on a Rs 20 crore Ambedkar Dham in Gwalior, while Lucknow’s new Ambedkar Memorial and Cultural Centre is in final works and targeting a July opening.
