Uttar Pradesh Cabinet Clears Statewide Village Bus Scheme, Mandates Land-Record Checks

Departments now face a 45-day target to launch services run by private operators under district-set fares.

Overview

  • The Mukhyamantri Gram Parivahan Yojana will extend bus service to all 59,163 gram sabhas, connecting about 12,200 villages that currently lack service with mostly 28-seater buses, overnight halts and at least two trips daily.
  • Private operators will run the routes with exemptions from permits and state taxes, while district magistrate–led committees will select providers, set routes and determine affordable fares.
  • Application screening is slated to finish within 15 days, applicants will get 15 more days to arrange vehicles, and the government targets an initial rollout within 45 days.
  • App-based taxi aggregators must register with the transport department under set fees—₹25,000 per operator or ₹5 lakh per company—with five-year renewals costing ₹5,000.
  • The cabinet also tightened employee financial-disclosure rules, approved a One Time Settlement for nearly 19,000 housing defaulters, cleared industrial and infrastructure projects including a Kanpur Ganga bridge and Meerut logistics clusters, and sanctioned UP’s contributions to the Lakhwar and Renukaji dam projects.
