UTEP Sweeps NMSU With 69-58 Win, Pushing Aggies Outside CUSA Tournament Picture

UTEP beat New Mexico State 69-58 on Feb. 21, extending the Aggies' skid to four games and moving the Miners to 12-13 overall (4-10 CUSA) while NMSU fell to 8-18 (4-10).
Both teams sit 4-10 in conference play, but UTEP's season sweep gives it the tiebreaker that drops NM State to 11th and outside the league tournament field.
The Miners seized control with a 26-14 third quarter, shooting 62.5% in the period and opening it with a 15-2 burst.
Five UTEP players scored in double figures: Delma Zita and Portia Adams with 14 each, Ndack Mbengue and Heaven Samayoa-Mathis with 13 apiece, and Ivane Tensaie with 10.
NM State shot 13-for-56 on two-pointers and 33.3% overall, with six players under 40% from the field; the Aggies next host Kennesaw State on Thursday, Feb. 26 at 6 p.m.
