Utah Poll Shows Broad Support for Prop 4, Including a Republican Majority

The release coincides with a Republican-led repeal drive facing a mid-February signature deadline.

Overview

  • An Embold Research online survey of 1,731 registered voters conducted Jan. 12–15 found 64% support for Proposition 4, with 19% opposed and 18% unsure.
  • Support crosses party lines, with 55% of Republicans and 88% of Democrats backing the anti-gerrymandering law, and large majorities favoring neutral, independent redistricting standards.
  • A Utah Republican Party–backed initiative to repeal Proposition 4 must submit enough signatures by Feb. 15 to reach the November ballot, with 57,437 of the 140,748 required signatures validated as of Monday.
  • President Donald Trump on Friday urged Utahns to sign the repeal petition, adding national attention to the effort.
  • Legislative attorneys asked the Utah Supreme Court on Friday to pause Judge Dianna Gibson’s ruling and court-drawn map by Feb. 20 while they appeal; plaintiffs argue the appeal was late, and Utah County’s clerk moved to intervene citing administrative issues with the court map.
