USPS Publishes Final Christmas Shipping Deadlines as Peak Week Starts

USPS says seasonal hires, new vehicles and 620 processing machines raise daily package capacity to about 80 million.

Overview

  • For delivery by Dec. 25, USPS recommends mailing by Dec. 17 for Ground Advantage and First-Class, Dec. 18 for Priority Mail, and Dec. 20 for Priority Mail Express.
  • USPS lists separate cutoffs for Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico and U.S. territories, including Dec. 16 for Ground Advantage, Dec. 17 for First-Class, Dec. 18 for Priority Mail and Dec. 20 for Priority Mail Express.
  • All post offices will be closed with no mail delivery on Dec. 25 and on Jan. 1, with self-service kiosks and smart lockers remaining available.
  • FedEx and UPS have posted their own last-send dates, with next-day options on Dec. 23 and economy ground services requiring earlier ship-by dates.
  • USPS urges customers to ship early and prepare packages carefully as the week of Dec. 15 is expected to be the busiest of the year.
