USP Students Recommend End to 54‑Day Strike After Clash at Administration Building

• The DCE-led general assembly, held Monday night, recommended ending the 54-day strike by a 323-to-255 vote but the decision does not automatically end the stoppage across the university.
• Each of USP’s faculties must hold its own assembly to decide on resuming classes and several units have already returned to normal activity, including Law, Medicine, the Polytechnic School and the School of Nursing.
• Students’ core demand was a larger PAFPE grant and the reitoria offered to raise the aid from R$885 to R$912, a move students said only restores inflation losses and falls short of their R$1,096 target.
• Hours after the vote a group tried to occupy the Administration Central building, six people aged 18–22 were detained and later released, several university security guards were injured, and police logged the case as serious bodily injury and damage to public property.
