USDA Issues Health Alert for White Oak Pastures Ground Beef Over Possible Metal

The notice targets consumers who may still have the beef at home despite its sell-by date.

Overview

  • FSIS issued the alert Monday after two consumer complaints reported metal fragments in White Oak Pastures ground beef.
  • The affected packages are 16-ounce vacuum-packed “Grassfed Ground Beef” bearing EST 34729 with a March 19 sell-by date and produced February 26.
  • The product was shipped to a distributor and to Mom’s Organic Market locations in Washington, D.C., Massachusetts, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Virginia.
  • The agency did not request a recall because the item is no longer on store shelves, which is how FSIS handles products likely in home freezers.
  • Consumers should not eat the beef and should throw it away or return it, and questions can go to White Oak Pastures’ processing manager Justin Wiley or the USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline.
