USD1 Stablecoin Goes Live on Canton Network as Circulation Tops $4 Billion

Native issuance enables atomic, privacy‑controlled cash settlement for tokenized assets on a network built for institutional finance.

Overview

  • World Liberty Financial announced on Aug. 25 that USD1 is now natively issued on the Canton Network, letting institutions settle tokenized assets and the cash leg in a single, synchronized transaction.
  • USD1’s supply has grown past $4 billion since its March 2025 launch, a rise World Liberty says reflects institutional demand and volume rather than political access.
  • The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency granted preliminary conditional approval for World Liberty Trust Company on Aug. 14, but the trust cannot operate until it meets preopening conditions such as minimum eligible capital and governance and audit staffing.
  • BitGo currently issues and custodies USD1 and its reserves; World Liberty says a finalized OCC charter would let the proposed trust assume issuance, redemption and reserve custody under federal supervision.
  • The project’s rapid growth and a $2 billion early settlement by Abu Dhabi‑linked MGX have drawn scrutiny because of Trump‑family ownership ties and large foreign investors, raising questions about concentration, liquidity and Congressional oversight that could affect regulators and institutional users.
