U.S. Strikes More Than 30 ISIS Targets in Syria This Month Under Operation Hawkeye

CENTCOM says the strikes aim to prevent an ISIS resurgence following the transfer of roughly 5,700 detainees to Iraq.

Overview

  • U.S. aircraft conducted 10 strikes from Feb. 3–12 that hit more than 30 Islamic State infrastructure and weapons storage sites using precision munitions from fixed‑wing, rotary‑wing and unmanned aircraft.
  • CENTCOM reports that Operation Hawkeye Strike has killed or captured over 50 ISIS members and destroyed more than 100 infrastructure targets in recent weeks.
  • The sustained campaign was launched after the Dec. 13 ambush in Palmyra that killed Sgt. Edgar Brian Torres‑Tovar, Sgt. William Nathaniel Howard and interpreter Ayad Mansoor Sakat.
  • U.S. forces completed the transfer of about 5,700 adult male ISIS detainees from Syrian facilities to Iraqi custody at Baghdad’s request, with trials expected in Iraq.
  • The U.S. confirmed a transition at the al‑Tanf garrison this week as Syria’s defense ministry said government forces now control the longtime U.S.‑run base.
