U.S. Rejects Iranian Claim It Hit USS Abraham Lincoln as Fake ‘Strike’ Videos Exposed and Report Details Clash at Sea

CENTCOM has not confirmed a reported U.S. strike on an Iranian vessel.

Overview

  • U.S. Central Command posted photos of the carrier and said Iranian missiles did not come close, rejecting claims the ship was hit.
  • AFP found a widely shared clip of the carrier on fire was AI-generated and matched an August 2025 Instagram post using Google’s Veo 2 model.
  • AFP also determined a second viral video was cropped from official U.S. Navy footage of the 2020 USS Bonhomme Richard fire in San Diego.
  • Two U.S. officials told CBS News that earlier this week a Navy ship missed an Iranian vessel with deck-gun fire before a helicopter struck it with two Hellfire missiles.
  • CENTCOM declined to comment on the CBS account, and the Abraham Lincoln remains deployed to the region as part of a two-carrier presence.
