Overview
- The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced on July 2 that it is recalling two Winco products after tests found they can tip over or malfunction in ways that may cause explosions or burn injuries.
- About 87,120 Unity 7 Shot 200 gram aerial cake units (model MEF6096, date codes 03.16.2026–05.18.2026) and roughly 13,500 Hometown Roman Candle three-packs are included in the recall.
- Consumers should stop using the identified packages immediately and return them to the store where they were bought for a full refund, and both the CPSC and Winco say no injuries have been reported so far.
- The recalled items were sold at Pyro City and other independent fireworks retailers nationwide between January 2026 and May 2026 for about $6–$8 for the Unity cakes and higher for the Roman candle packs.
- Local laws on fireworks use vary, so the practical effect of the recall will differ by city and state and the CPSC has posted recall details, contact information and return instructions on its website.
