Overview
- Arkham Intelligence reported on Thursday that U.S. government wallets moved roughly 0.0048 BTC that had been seized from Alameda Research accounts on Binance.US about three years ago.
- The blockchain trace did not show a destination address or prove a sale, and Arkham did not say the transaction represented liquidation of Alameda holdings.
- Federal accounts have routed larger batches of Alameda‑ and FTX‑linked assets this year, including transfers in May and June and a July movement of about 3,940 BTC and 30,014 ETH to Coinbase Prime.
- President Trump’s March 2025 executive order created a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve that bars sales of Bitcoin placed in the reserve but allows exceptions for victim restitution, court orders, or law enforcement needs.
- Because federal agencies have not explained the Aug. 26–27 transfer, the key things to watch are whether officials say the coins are earmarked for creditor repayment, moved into the reserve, or held at an exchange in anticipation of a future sale.
