Overview
- U.S. forces carried out a 10th consecutive day of air, drone and naval strikes on Monday that CENTCOM says are meant to degrade Iranian military systems used to target commercial shipping.
- As part of a reinstated naval blockade, U.S. units have redirected at least seven commercial vessels and disabled one ship to prevent access to or from Iranian ports, with the USS Boxer supporting flight operations.
- The Pentagon confirmed two U.S. Army soldiers were killed in an Iranian attack in Jordan and reported nearly 100 service members have suffered injuries since July 7, with about 96% returned to duty.
- Diplomatic talks to reopen the Strait of Hormuz remain paused, regional mediators have offered proposals to ease hostilities, and markets and shipping insurers are pricing higher risk for Gulf maritime traffic.
- The strikes and blockade follow a short June truce and target coastal surveillance, air defenses and logistics nodes so Iran’s ability to strike commercial ships is reduced and interdiction of Iranian maritime traffic is enforced.
