Overview
- AMC announced it will screen Steel Magnolias and The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas at about 200 U.S. locations beginning Friday, Aug. 28 and running through Sept. 2 with discounted Fan Faves pricing and planned matinee showings where possible.
- Regal is holding special screenings in Tennessee on Aug. 29–30 and has pledged that 100 percent of proceeds from those shows and a planned nationwide expansion next weekend will benefit Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.
- Harkins is staging a $6, two-film tribute on Aug. 29–30 and will donate all ticket proceeds from participating locations to the Imagination Library.
- The short, coordinated engagements are structured with set dates, ticket prices, and participating theaters and use theater websites and mobile apps for advance sales to give fans an organized way to attend memorial screenings.
- Parton died Tuesday after a brief battle with cancer, and the re-releases link her screen career to her long-running Imagination Library program, which was founded in 1995 in Sevier County, Tennessee to mail free books to young children and now reaches readers nationally and internationally.
