U.S. CEO Killed in Nicaragua Resort Tour Crash That Critically Injured Her Son

Nicaragua’s National Police are investigating the resort-run tour crash.

Overview

  • Kasey Grelle, 41, died after an open-air tourist truck crashed inside the Rancho Santana resort in Tola on March 23.
  • Her 11-year-old son, Julian, suffered severe head, skull, and spine injuries with a collapsed lung and was airlifted to a children’s hospital in St. Louis.
  • Local outlet TN8 reported the truck lost control while descending a hill and overturned with roughly 28 foreign passengers on board, injuring more than 20 people.
  • Victims received first aid at the scene before being taken to Hospital Gaspar García Laviana in Rivas, and relatives say Grelle died en route to the hospital.
  • A GoFundMe for the children has raised more than $320,000 to cover medical, evacuation, funeral, and living costs as officials work to determine what went wrong with the resort tour vehicle.
