US-Based Doctor Says Rs 1 Crore in Gold Stolen From Locked Room at Bengaluru Wedding Hall

Investigators are checking CCTV footage for signs of entry using a duplicate key.

Overview

  • Police at Avalahalli station have registered a case and say the probe is underway.
  • The victim, 52-year-old Dr Siruvella Sridevi, brought the jewellery for a relative’s wedding and kept the box in a room at SDP Palace in Bidarahalli.
  • She wore some pieces for the reception, locked the rest in the room, and later found about 725 grams missing, including heavy jhumkas, a coin necklace, a waist belt and head ornaments.
  • Officers are reviewing surveillance video, questioning family members and others with access, and considering whether someone used a duplicate key.
  • The venue manager denied staff involvement after the victim reported that a hall worker had entered her room while she was getting ready, and the hall said it will cooperate.
