Overview
- U.S. Marshals, Interpol Washington and Homeland Security agents detained Juan Manuel Reverter in Deschutes County, Oregon, on Thursday, July 23, 2026.
- Reverter is the principal suspect in the February 18, 2023 death of model Agostina Jalabert in Playa del Carmen and is accused of staging a hanging to simulate suicide.
- Independent and official forensic work, including an autopsy by José Micieli, found blows, cranial trauma, cigarette burns and signs of sexual abuse that investigators said were incompatible with suicide.
- Reverter remained a fugitive for more than three years and was the subject of an Interpol red notice issued in early 2026, which helped coordinate the international search that led to his capture.
- With Reverter in U.S. custody the immediate next steps are extradition to Mexico and prosecution by Quintana Roo authorities, a process the family says they will follow closely as they seek a full trial and sentencing.
