Overview
- The State Department approved a proposed $108.1 million Foreign Military Sale to provide maintenance, spare parts, repairs, logistics and technical support for Ukraine’s HAWK surface-to-air systems.
- The package will be delivered under the U.S. Foreign Military Sales program with Sierra Nevada Corporation named as the principal contractor and work covering software, contractor engineering and hardware sustainment.
- The Defense Security Cooperation Agency has notified Congress of the proposed sale and the transaction remains subject to congressional review and final approval before it can proceed.
- The sustainment move follows earlier U.S. shipments of HAWK interceptors and prior sustainment approvals and is framed by officials as a way to help Ukraine defend against ongoing Russian missile and drone strikes.
- If approved, the sale would extend the life and readiness of systems that directly affect frontline air defenses and could reduce short-term gaps in Ukraine’s ability to intercept aircraft and cruise missiles while broader U.S. assistance continues to be assessed.
