Uruguay Station Reopens as Buenos Aires Accelerates Subte Overhaul

The upgrades form part of a 48-station program that now counts 17 revamps across the network.

Overview

  • Uruguay on Line B reopened on February 25 with waterproofing, new floors and signage, LED lighting, restored murals, and a Corrientes-themed design developed with AADET under scenographer Mariana Tirantte.
  • Plaza Italia on Line D returned to service on February 24 after three months of works that added aluzinc cladding, a double roof to channel rainwater, new lighting and flooring, and heritage restoration of eight murals and historic tiles.
  • City officials now state 17 of the planned 48 stations have been refurbished, following earlier tallies that listed 16 completed upgrades.
  • Several stops remain closed for works, including Piedras and Congreso on Line A and Malabia on Line B, with next interventions scheduled at Tribunales, Medrano, Ángel Gallardo, Lavalle, Independencia, General Urquiza and Entre Ríos.
  • The modernization drive also targets core infrastructure on Line B with a shift to 1500-volt power and a new fleet of 174 air‑conditioned cars under construction to improve frequency and comfort.
