UPSC Guarantees 'Centre of Choice' for PwBD Candidates in All Exams

The Commission will add seats at full centres to ensure no eligible candidate with a benchmark disability is denied a preferred location.

Overview

  • The policy was announced on December 12 in an official UPSC statement covering all examinations it conducts.
  • Under the revised allocation, each centre’s regular capacity is first filled by both PwBD and non-PwBD applicants.
  • Once a centre hits capacity, it is closed to non-PwBD applicants while PwBD candidates may still select it.
  • UPSC will arrange additional capacity at those centres so every PwBD applicant receives the centre indicated in their application.
  • Chairman Ajay Kumar said a five-year analysis showed high-demand cities such as Delhi, Cuttack, Patna and Lucknow fill early, creating access challenges the new system is designed to address.
