UPI Sets New High With 20.7 Billion Transactions in October as Daily Record Breaks 750 Million

Industry commentary links the surge to festive demand alongside policy tweaks, signaling a maturing market with slower year-on-year gains.

Overview

  • October 18 set a single-day record with 754.37 million payments worth Rs 1.02 lakh crore, and the DhanterasDiwali three-day window averaged 736.9 million transactions.
  • On an annual basis, volume rose about 25% and value about 16%, while analysts note the growth rate has eased to a 43-month low.
  • The platform averaged 668 million transactions a day in October with average daily value of Rs 87,993 crore.
  • UPI retained a dominant position in India’s digital payments ecosystem at roughly 84.8% of volume in H1 2025, with October’s spike attributed to festive spending and changes such as GST 2.0 and income-tax relief.
