UP Woman Constable’s In-Laws Booked Over Dowry and Assault Allegations

Investigators are reviewing the new complaint after an earlier FIR named the husband’s elder brother in an Oct. 5 gunpoint rape allegation.

  • Police in Pilibhit lodged an FIR on Sunday night booking the husband, his parents, two elder brothers and their wives under BNS sections 85, 352, 351(3) and provisions of the Dowry Prohibition Act.

  • The complainant says the husband’s elder brother raped her at gunpoint on Oct. 5 in Meerut, for which a separate FIR was registered at Kharkhauda police station.
  • The 27-year-old constable, married since Jan. 26, 2023 to a UP Police constable, alleges persistent demands for an SUV despite her family’s reported Rs 50 lakh wedding expenditure and gifts including a car and jewellery.
  • She alleges she was forced to drink sanitiser on Sept. 5 and was coerced during pregnancy to take medicines to ensure a male child, claiming assaults led to her newborn developing seizures.
