UP ATS Arrests Azamgarh Man Over Jaunpur Court Bomb‑Threat Emails

UP ATS says the threats were a revenge plot using VPNs, fake IDs, and planted numbers to frame the fiancé’s family.

Overview

  • Investigators traced the emails through digital forensics, VPN logs and social‑media tracking, leading to the February 22 arrest of Vishal Ranjan at a rented accommodation in Azamgarh.
  • Police say five messages sent on February 17 to the Jaunpur district judge threatened explosions at the court complex and the Police Lines gate and demanded ₹1 lakh in the Uttar Pradesh chief minister’s name.
  • According to UP ATS, the accused acted after a village panchayat forced him to apologise over a prior fake account incident, then tried to misdirect blame by using email IDs and mobile numbers linked to the groom’s side.
  • Seized materials included multiple phones, a laptop, memory cards and SIM cards, with forensics indicating nearly 50 email IDs, about 20 fake Facebook profiles and a drafted threat naming Azamgarh Roadways bus station.
  • A case was filed at Line Bazar police station under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Criminal Law Amendment Act and the Information Technology Act, with officials saying sufficient evidence has been gathered.
