UofL Opens Expanded Kosair for Kids Pediatric NeuroRecovery Center

The 13,631-square-foot facility consolidates therapy, research and training to speed treatment for children with spinal cord and other neurological injuries.

Overview

  • UofL, UofL Health and Kosair for Kids held a ribbon-cutting in mid-June 2026 to open the new 13,631-square-foot Kosair for Kids Center for Pediatric NeuroRecovery inside Frazier Rehab Institute.
  • The expansion raises daily treatment capacity by about 33 percent, enabling the center to serve up to 24 children per day with intensive, technology-enabled rehabilitation therapies.
  • Funding combined philanthropy and federal support, including a $1 million Kosair for Kids grant, $2 million from the Health Resources and Services Administration, and a bequest from the estate of Jane Burian.
  • The center colocates clinical care with the Kentucky Spinal Cord Injury Research Center and a training program so researchers and clinicians can translate discoveries into practice and train future specialists.
  • Design features and the Shelley Trimble Fund aim to cut financial and logistical barriers for families by adding private consultation rooms, family space, age-specific treatment areas and funds to help cover therapy costs.
