Overview

  • Eva Jae Moran, a 19-year-old freshman pole vaulter at the University of Toledo, died after a three-vehicle collision on State Route 309 on May 29 that left her critically injured.
  • OSHP’s preliminary account says Moran’s 2012 Hyundai Elantra struck the rear of a stopped 2013 GMC Acadia, crossed into oncoming traffic, and was then struck by a 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee, with Moran ejected from her vehicle and later pronounced dead at Marion General Hospital.
  • The other drivers were identified as 19-year-old Nathaniel Blankenship, who had possible injuries treated at the scene, and 23-year-old Dalila Zamudio, who suffered minor injuries and was taken to Marion General Hospital.
  • Toledo Athletics and coaches described Moran as a determined student-athlete who had set a Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference high-school pole-vault record and posted a 3.57m personal best this season that ranks sixth in program history.
  • Authorities have not announced charges or a final cause and the Ohio State Highway Patrol continues its investigation, which could lead to a formal crash report or further legal action once completed.
