Universal Shows Off Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift Cars as On-Track Testing Begins

The Hollywood coaster uses controlled 360-degree rotation to simulate drifting and leads a two-park rollout that adds an Orlando version in 2027.

Overview

  • Universal unveiled four franchise-modeled ride vehicles: Dominic Toretto’s 1970 Dodge Charger, Han’s 1997 Mazda RX-7, and Brian O’Conner’s 2002 Nissan Skyline GT-R and 1994 Toyota Supra.
  • On-track testing with the themed cars was spotted this week at Universal Studios Hollywood as the attraction moves through late-stage commissioning for a summer opening.
  • The ride is designed to hit up to 72 mph along 4,100 feet of aerial track that crosses the park’s Starway escalators, becoming the park’s first high-speed outdoor coaster.
  • Operational details include a dual-loading platform with under-platform lockers and a large Tristan Eaton mural inside a red brick, garage-style show building on the Upper Lot.
  • A second installation is slated for Universal Orlando in 2027, with construction continuing toward that debut.
