Universal Credit, PIP and Carer's Allowance Increases Now in Force as Expert Urges Checks

The end of the two-child cap restores payments for every eligible child.

Overview

  • The DWP uprating, in place from April 6, 2026, lifted Personal Independence Payment by 3.8% and raised Universal Credit and Carer's Allowance.
  • New Universal Credit standard amounts include £338.58 a month for a single person under 25 and £424.90 for a single person aged 25 or over.
  • Carer's Allowance now pays £86.45 a week, and the earnings limit to keep eligibility has risen to £204 per week.
  • The two‑child cap has been removed, so eligible parents can receive £333 a month for a first child born before April 6, 2017, and £287.92 for each additional child.
  • A bank holiday shifted some early April payments to the prior Friday, and BBC expert Laura Pomfret urged claimants to check their accounts to confirm the higher amounts arrived.
