Overview
- United will introduce the Airbus A321XLR on domestic transcontinental flights from Washington Dulles to San Diego on Sept. 9 and to Los Angeles on Oct. 1 as crews gain experience with the type.
- The airline plans to switch the XLR to international service on Dec. 1, 2026 with daily Washington Dulles flights to Amsterdam and Dublin already on sale.
- United has scheduled broader summer 2027 XLR service from Newark and Dulles to several smaller European cities including Ibiza, Valencia, Luxembourg, Marseille and Toulouse.
- Each XLR is fitted with 20 Polaris business suites, 12 Premium Plus seats, about 34 Economy Plus seats, 84 economy seats, Panasonic Astrova screens and free Starlink Wi‑Fi.
- United has 50 A321XLRs on order to replace older 757s and expand point‑to‑point transatlantic choices, but the plan depends on steady aircraft deliveries, seasonal demand and fuel and pricing conditions.
