Overview
- United launched a pilot program Wednesday that lets eligible passengers order food, drinks and travel items through the United app for pickup at designated gates in Newark Liberty’s Terminal C.
- The test covers select flights using up to nine gates in the C125–C138 area where OTG staff prepare orders from participating outlets and place them on a pickup shelf near each gate.
- Passengers receive a push notification or email before departure with a menu that includes sandwiches, salads, kids meals, snacks, drinks and travel essentials such as over‑the‑counter medicine, charging cords and travel pillows.
- The airline plans to expand the pilot to Houston later this year and says it may integrate ordering into seatback entertainment screens if customer feedback shows the service is reliable and valued.
- United positions the trial as part of a wider push to make travel simpler through its app but the program’s success will hinge on operational reliability, correct gate delivery amid changes, and passenger willingness to pay airport prices.
