Overview
- Union Pacific published the eastern-leg route for its nationwide tour, confirming a June 3 public display from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Larry S. Provo Union Pacific Training Center in West Chicago, with the route beginning May 25 in Cheyenne.
- Event guidance says no parking will be available at the West Chicago site, and visitors are urged to ride Metra to the nearby station for access.
- The display schedule lists Omaha on May 30, Buffalo on June 10, Scranton on June 15–16, Philadelphia on July 4–5, Altoona on July 9–10, Fostoria on July 14, and St. Louis on July 19, with brief Illinois whistle stops on June 2 and July 18.
- Union Pacific says this tour will be Big Boy’s first trip across the Mississippi River and into the Ohio Valley since it was built in Schenectady, New York.
- The 1.2-million-pound steam locomotive, delivered in 1941 and the only operational survivor of 25 built, will travel with Union Pacific Heritage Fleet passenger cars and two commemorative locomotives.
