Overview
- Early on Wednesday a citizen discovered clothing on the Wipper riverbank near Panzerstraße and reported it to police at about 5:30 a.m.
- Police and fire crews deployed a police helicopter, a fire department boat, person- and cadaver-detection dogs, and a drone team to search the river and shoreline.
- The garments recovered include a pair of trousers, shoes and outerwear and are believed to be men's clothing, but no owner or person connected to the items has been located.
- Investigators from Polizei Sondershausen and the Landespolizeiinspektion Nordhausen ask anyone with information to call 0361-574365100 and to report observed activity near the Panzerstraße stretch of the Wipper.
- Authorities say finding clothing by a watercourse routinely prompts searches to exclude drownings, but they also note the items may simply have been left behind and further steps will depend on witness tips or new evidence.
