Overview
- Spain’s Ministry for the Ecological Transition issued an unfavourable assessment that has stopped progress on the Parque Azul de Vida Submarina in Almuñécar and La Herradura.
- The town hall says it complied with technical and administrative requirements and strongly rejects the ministry’s conclusions.
- Ayuntamiento officials report more than €600,000 has already been executed on the project for 3D‑printed marine structures and anchoring work.
- The municipality has formally requested an urgent technical meeting with the ministry to clarify the report and seek ways to unblock the initiative.
- The project was designed as an EU‑funded scheme to combine blue tourism and artificial reefs for marine regeneration and its suspension could jeopardise local jobs, seasonal tourism plans and EU funding unless plans are revised or an appeal succeeds.
