Unexploded Ordnance Triggers Evacuations in Bridgend; CardiffSwansea Rail Halted

Police have cleared nearby supermarkets and offices as a precaution.

  • South Wales Police were called just before 1:10pm after a wartime device was found in Cheapside, Bridgend.
  • Tremains Road and Cheapside are closed, with advice to avoid Brackla Street between Castle Bingo and Wilko's as well as nearby named businesses.
  • Aldi, Asda, Brackla House, and a building site on Cheapside have been evacuated as a safety measure.
  • All lines between Cardiff Central and Swansea are blocked, with GWR estimating disruption until 17:00 and replacement road transport being arranged, including limited services between Cardiff and Bridgend.
  • Police urge the public to stay away as heavy traffic is reported in the town centre, following similar ordnance finds in the area in July.
