Many site-level claims rely on Iranian reports with independent assessments ongoing.

Overview

  • Iran’s Cultural Heritage Ministry reports at least 56 museums, monuments and cultural sites damaged since February 28, including 19 locations in Tehran such as Golestan Palace, the Grand Bazaar and the former Senate building.
  • UNESCO says it has verified damage at Golestan Palace in Tehran, Chehel Sotoun Palace and the Masjed-e Jame in Isfahan, and to buildings near the Khorramabad Valley prehistoric caves.
  • In Isfahan, local reports describe shattered doors and windows at Ali Qapu and Chehel Sotoun in the Naqsh-e Jahan complex and impacts to other Royal Precinct buildings including Rakeb-Khaneh and Ashraf Hall.
  • Lorestan officials report strikes near the Falak-ol-Aflak citadel on March 8 that damaged adjacent museums and cultural offices, while the main castle structure remains intact.
  • US and Israeli officials say they targeted military sites and deny intentionally striking cultural property as UNESCO shares coordinates and organizes further technical assessments.
