UNAM Council Approves Cosmetics Chemistry Degree, Distance Nursing System, 2025 Budget and Governance Reform

The package aims to align training with industry demand.

Overview

  • The University Council approved a new Industrial Cosmetic Chemistry bachelor’s at FES Cuautitlán with nine semesters, 57 courses and an expected first class of about 20 students.
  • The program targets a sector the academic commission says is Mexico’s No. 2 market in Latin America and the world’s fifth-largest producer, with more than 250,000 related jobs cited by the Economy Ministry.
  • The Council created an Open and Distance University System for the Faculty of Nursing and Obstetrics to add open, online and hybrid study and to widen continuing and graduate education.
  • The Council ratified the 2025 annual accounts of 60,135.9 million pesos, allocating 61.1% to teaching, 26.4% to research and 7.5% to university outreach.
  • A change to Article 13 of the General Statute revises the Junta de Gobierno to ensure representation by knowledge areas, add at least one active high school teacher and consider candidates without full-time posts.
