UN Security Council Condemns Iran Strikes as UAE Reports Intercepts and Casualties

  • The Security Council adopted Resolution 2817 with 13 votes in favor and abstentions by China and Russia, demanding an immediate stop to Iranian attacks and condemning any attempt to impede navigation in the Strait of Hormuz; the U.S. delegate said Iranian strikes targeted civilian sites in the UAE.
  • The UAE Ministry of Defense reported that on March 11 its air defenses engaged 6 ballistic missiles, 7 cruise missiles and 39 drones, bringing cumulative interceptions since the start of the campaign to 268 ballistic missiles, 15 cruise missiles and 1,514 drones, with 6 fatalities and 131 injuries reported.
  • Authorities in Dubai said a limited fire was contained after a drone fell on a building in Dubai Creek Harbour with no injuries recorded, while a separate hostile drone hit the UAE consulate in Iraq’s Kurdistan Region causing damage only as Abu Dhabi requested investigations and Arab states issued condemnations.
  • UAE leaders held calls with counterparts including Germany, Russia, Serbia and Ireland, receiving expressions of solidarity and stressing the need for an immediate de-escalation and a return to dialogue under international law.
  • The United Kingdom deployed the destroyer HMS Dragon to the eastern Mediterranean to strengthen air defenses against drones and missile threats, as London discussed with allies measures to support commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
