UN Report Finds RSF Killed at Least 1,013 Civilians in Three-Day Assault on Darfur Displacement Camp

UN investigators say the Darfur attack fits a broader pattern of grave violations that must trigger accountability.

Overview

  • Investigators document mass executions, widespread sexual violence, torture, deliberate shootings of fleeing civilians, and attacks in schools, clinics and mosques during the 11–13 April assault on the Zamzam camp in North Darfur.
  • More than 400,000 people were forced to flee, following months in which RSF forces blocked food, water and fuel, with families resorting to feeding children animal feed such as peanut shells.
  • The UN describes the wider Sudan conflict as the world’s largest humanitarian crisis, with about 12 million people displaced and roughly half the population facing hunger.
  • UN human-rights chief Volker Türk urged the international community to respond, warning that such brutality is becoming entrenched as daily reality in Sudan.
  • Amnesty International called for Germany to halt arms transfers to the UAE over diversion risks to the RSF, while EU lawmaker Erik Marquardt pressed for greater EU humanitarian funding and suggested suspending Schengen visa-free entry for UAE nationals.
