ULFA-I Claims RPG Attack on Assam Police Camp as Army Neutralises Unexploded Ordnance

Officials say the site is secure following bomb-disposal work ahead of the April 9 election.

Overview

  • A pre-dawn strike around 2 to 2:30 am hit the Jagun 10th Mile commando camp in Tinsukia with four to five RPG rounds followed by gunfire, injuring four Assam Police commandos.
  • All four injured personnel were taken to Assam Medical College and Hospital in Dibrugarh and reported stable, while the DGP said one burn victim was shifted to Gauhati Medical College for specialised care.
  • The proscribed ULFA-I claimed the operation under the codename “Operation Bujoni,” describing it as retaliation for security actions and alleged 2025 strikes on its camps.
  • Red Shield Sappers, working with Assam Rifles, cordoned the area and safely disposed of unexploded RPG and UBGL rounds at a secure location away from civilians.
  • Security has been tightened with joint search operations ongoing, police say the attackers likely fled toward Arunachal Pradesh, and the state has requested 800 CAPF companies with additional forces moving in.
