Ukraine Starts First U.S. LNG Imports via Lithuania’s Klaipėda Terminal
The 90 million cubic meter cargo secured with Ignitis will be moved into Ukraine through February and March.
Overview
- Naftogaz’s chief announced the first use of Klaipėda to bring U.S. LNG into Ukraine.
- The initial shipment totals 90 million cubic meters under a partnership with Lithuania’s state-owned Ignitis Group.
- Deliveries through Klaipėda complement existing U.S. LNG routes via Poland’s Świnoujście terminal and a German Deutsche ReGas facility activated earlier this month.
- Naftogaz targets about 1 billion cubic meters of U.S. LNG this year and is discussing grants or loans with Western partners to finance higher import costs.
- Ukrainian officials say the diversified routes strengthen energy security and reduce reliance on Russian gas after transit through Ukraine ceased at the start of 2025.
