Ukraine Says It Downed 150 of 164 Russian Drones in Overnight Barrage

Ukraine is expanding interceptor-drone crews alongside company-run air-defense units to blunt mass UAV waves.

Overview

  • Following Monday’s large-scale air assault, Ukraine reported an Iskander-M ballistic missile and 164 attack drones launched at its territory, with air defenses neutralizing 150 of them.
  • At least four people were killed and 36 injured in strikes that broke through, with hits recorded at seven locations and power outages reported across seven regions, according to local officials and the grid operator.
  • Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi said interceptor-drone sorties rose in March and that these UAVs have destroyed more than 2,300 enemy aerial targets since spring, as a reorganized “small air defense” command ramps training and automation.
  • Ukraine’s defense minister said the first air-defense units formed by industrial firms are already on duty under Air Force control, and he credited them with shooting down drones in Kharkiv as new units stand up at 13 more companies.
  • Finnish police said a stray Ukrainian drone that crashed in southeast Finland carried an unexploded warhead and Ukraine apologized, while Russia claimed intercepts of over 100 Ukrainian drones and announced territorial gains that Kyiv has not confirmed.
