Ukraine Says Air Defenses Shot Down 147 Drones in New Night Attack

Kyiv is pushing partners to rush missile supplies after back-to-back strikes.

Overview

  • Ukrainian forces reported a fresh overnight barrage with 172 attack drones and one Iskander-M ballistic missile, and said they downed or jammed 147 drones as strikes hit eight sites and caused power outages in parts of the north.
  • The previous night’s larger two‑wave assault involved 703 air targets, of which Ukraine says 667 were neutralized, yet lethal strikes still hit Kyiv, Odesa and Dnipro, including the death of a 12‑year‑old boy in the capital.
  • Fighting on the ground stayed heavy with daily clashes ranging from 100 to 153, and the Pokrovsk sector in Donetsk region remained the most active as Russian troops pressed assaults across several fronts.
  • Ukraine secured a UN Security Council session for April 20 to address attacks on civilians, while Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiha urged tougher sanctions and faster air‑defense deliveries, and President Volodymyr Zelensky tasked commanders to follow up on promised Patriot missiles.
  • The General Staff confirmed Ukrainian strikes on Russia’s Tuapse oil refinery and terminal, a Rosneft complex that can process about 12 million tons a year, which could disrupt fuel flows that support Russian military operations.
