Ukraine Repels Mass Drone-and-Missile Barrage, Reports Deep Strikes in Russia as Allies Boost Air Defense

New pledges of about $38 billion for 2026 focus on interceptors and drones to blunt winter attacks that are battering Ukraine’s energy network.

Overview

  • Russia launched 219 attack drones and 25 missiles overnight on 11–12 February, with Ukraine reporting 213 interceptions; at least two people were killed and more than 10 injured, officials said.
  • Targets included thermal and power assets that cut heat and water: Kyiv reported about 2,600 additional apartment blocks without heat, Odesa saw roughly 300,000 people lose water and nearly 200 buildings lose heat, and a DTEK power plant was heavily damaged.
  • Ukraine said it struck a major missile and munitions arsenal near Kotluban in Russia’s Volgograd region with FP-5 “Flamingo” systems, hit the Progress plant in Michurinsk, and ignited a fire at Lukoil’s Ukhta refinery about 1,750 km from the border.
  • Ground fighting stayed intense on 12 February, with 132 engagements recorded and the heaviest clashes around Pokrovsk in Donetsk and Huliaipole in Zaporizhzhia, where dozens of Russian assault attempts were reported.
  • At the Ramstein-format meeting, partners announced nearly $38 billion in planned 2026 aid prioritizing air defense and drones, as the UK detailed new interceptor and munitions funding and Germany pressed for more PAC-3 missiles and a ‘city dome’ protection effort.
