Overview
- Ukrainian forces launched medium- and long-range unmanned strikes over June 7–8 that struck the Grushovaya oil transshipment terminal near Novorossiysk and the Krasny Yar LPDS in Volgograd, and hit multiple oil depots in occupied Crimea, with fires reported at several sites.
- A Ukrainian drone struck a passenger train to Simferopol, killing the assistant driver and wounding the lead driver, after which rail services to parts of Crimea were suspended and passengers were moved by bus.
- Ukraine’s General Staff reported a very high tempo of ground combat, recording roughly 196–240 engagements on June 7–8 and numerous repelled Russian assault attempts in sectors including Pokrovsk, Lyman, Sloviansk and Huliaipole.
- Both sides reported mass drone launches and large, conflicting interception tallies: Russia’s defence ministry claimed hundreds of Ukrainian UAVs were shot down (reports range up to 500 or 310), while Ukraine said its air defences neutralized 124 of 155 Russian-launched drones.
- The strikes have immediate human and logistical effects—civilian casualties and infrastructure damage in Ukraine, fuel shortages and fires in Crimea and southern Russia—and they raise the risk of wider regional spillover as air-defence responses and cross-border incidents increase.
