Ukraine Downs 161 of 197 Russian Drones Overnight, Sends Interceptor Drones and Experts to Jordan

Kyiv is leveraging its drone-defense know-how to press partners for more air-defense missiles.

Overview

  • Ukraine’s Air Force reported two Iskander-M missiles and 197 attack drones launched since the evening of March 8, with about 120 Shahed-type UAVs, and said 161 drones were shot down or jammed as strikes hit eight locations.
  • Ukrainian officials said Russia is mounting mass drone barrages on a near-nightly basis, with interception rates affected by weather and frontline targeting that complicates engagement further inland.
  • Local authorities reported at least one person killed and 12 injured over the past day across several regions, while the death toll from the March 7 ballistic strike on a Kharkiv apartment block rose to 10.
  • Ukraine’s General Staff confirmed new strikes on Russian assets in occupied areas, including an S-300 radar in Crimea, a Buk-M3 system in Luhansk region, and multiple command posts in Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia.
  • President Volodymyr Zelensky said Ukraine deployed interceptor drones and a specialist team to help defend U.S. bases in Jordan and received 11 requests for drone-defense assistance, as Russia issued large but unverified claims of downing hundreds of Ukrainian drones.
