Overview
- The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office updated guidance for travel to 29 Schengen countries to reflect the EU Entry/Exit System.
- EES is being introduced in phases at external Schengen borders, with full operation expected by 10 April 2026.
- On first short-stay entry, travellers may be required to register fingerprints and a photo, with children aged 11 and under exempt from fingerprinting.
- Registration is free and needs no pre-arrival action, and passports will continue to be stamped until the system is fully implemented.
- Longer waits are expected at border controls, with registration at UK juxtaposed points in Dover, Folkestone and St Pancras likely to cause congestion.
