UK Retailers Recall Stretcherz Toys After Tests Detect Trace Asbestos

Regulators describe a precautionary action following HTI Toys’ withdrawal of all batches with advice to stop use.

Overview

  • HTI Toys has recalled all Stretcherz products after testing found trace asbestos in the sand-like filling, triggering market withdrawals across major UK chains.
  • Retailers now recalling the toys include Aldi, Asda, Tesco, Argos, Smyths Toys and The Works, with refunds offered to customers who return affected items.
  • The Office for Product Safety and Standards instructs owners to stop use immediately, double-bag any sand, clean with wet cloths, wear gloves and a mask, and keep children away from affected areas.
  • Examples of affected lines include Asda’s Stretch Squad Assortment (barcode 5050837662419, sold Jan 2024–Feb 2026) and Slammerz Assortment (5050835105345), and Tesco’s Stretcherz Squad Action Figure Four Pack Assortment.
  • No injuries have been reported and the overall risk is described as low, yet asbestos is banned, and officials say more distributors may be added as the investigation continues.
