UK Confirms £74 Million Clean‑Energy Upgrades for NHS, Military Sites and a Prison

Projected savings for NHS sites will be redirected to frontline care through a package including £9 million with Great British Energy.

Overview

  • Eighty‑two NHS trusts, eight military sites and one prison will receive funding for LEDs, solar panels, heat pumps, batteries and building‑management upgrades.
  • Government projections estimate almost £30 million in annual bill savings across more than 190 NHS sites, with military bases also expected to save hundreds of thousands of pounds each year.
  • Great British Energy will deliver £9 million for batteries and solar as part of the package, building on its £255 million investment in public‑sector solar projects last year.
  • Regional allocations include £4.8 million for Greater Manchester trusts (with Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust receiving £2.764 million), £887,000 for University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay, and £522,000 for Darlington Memorial Hospital.
  • Named projects include over £1.2 million for solar at Lincoln County Hospital, £590,000 for battery technology at The Harbour in Blackpool, and £495,000 for solar at HMP Channings Wood plus nearly £250,000 for efficiency works, while Swindon’s Great Western Hospital was not selected in this round.
